Greed Is Still Good

Greed is good, but doesn't help with the aging process.

Greed is good, but doesn't help with the aging process.

Wall Street came out 22 years ago. It was pretty solid, it was popular, and it spawned the “greed is good” catchphrase. But I do feel like its reputation, legacy, etc. hasn’t quite held up over the years. It’s not the cultural reference point it once was, which can be said for many films two decades old, but still…is anyone really clamoring for a sequel? The Huffington Post reports:

Douglas is reprising his role as Gordon Gekko and Stone is on board again to direct the sequel, which for now has the working title “Wall Street 2,” said 20th Century Fox spokesman Gregg Brilliant.

Brilliant said the project is timely and relevant given the state of the world.

“We need to keep the story line under wraps, but it’s literally ripped from today’s headlines,” Brilliant said. “It’s going to be very big and very cool.”

I’m just impressed that the dude’s last name is Brilliant.

Meanwhile, Douglas – showing up for the premiere of his new Matthew McConaughey paycheck rom-com – displayed that he has suddenly, rapidly aged since his last film. Maybe Wall Street 2 will be about Gordon Gekko investing in Depends and denture products.
