Rumours surfaced last week that Wolverine was undergoing extensive reshoots – never the best news for any film, let alone a blockbuster franchise with such a dedicated fanbase. It wasn’t the first time that reports of similar point had appeared, either. Predictably, geek-oriented message boards blew up like a bad Herpes outbreak, with X-Men nerds taking pot shots at FOX (hmm, I seem to recall them being responsible for some other recent criticism from fanboy circles) and the filmmakers in charge of production.

Stooges Guitarist Ron Asheton Dead

Musician Ron Asheton has been found dead in his Ann Arbor home, reports NME. The guitarist for legendary punk-rock band The Stooges was discovered early this morning, on January 6th, and appeared to have been dead for several days; although no official cause of death has been released yet, early reports indicate a heart attack. The Best Films of 2008

I hadn’t originally planned on putting together a list of the best films of this year, because (a) I don’t really like doing rank-order lists, and (b) I hadn’t seen many of the Oscar contenders. But I guess the temptation to put together a list won in the end (plus, I got a chance to see some more award bait).

Rather than doing it alphabetically, which I normally prefer, I’m going to try to rank them. Here goes.
